BYRNA SHOOTING SAFETY STANDARDS
Treat every firearm as if it is loaded:
This rule is fundamental. Even if you believe a firearm is unloaded, you should always handle it as if it were loaded. This helps prevent accidental discharges caused by assumptions.
Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction:
The muzzle is the barrel's end from which the bullet exits. Never point a firearm at anything you don't intend to shoot. This ensures that even if an accidental discharge occurs, it won't result in harm.
Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot:
Your trigger finger should be kept straight and outside the trigger guard until you are on target and have made the conscious decision to fire. This prevents accidental firing due to unexpected movement or a slip of the finger.
Be sure of your target and what is beyond it:
Before firing, identify your target and what is behind it. Ensure that there are no people, animals, or property that could be harmed by your shot.
